In observation of the 19th Parthenium Awareness Week” from 16th-22nd Aug.,2024” ICAR-KVK Longding, Kanubari organized a programme today the 21st Aug.,2024 at Kanubari amongs the students of St Savio Sr. Secondary School, Kanubari. The team from ICAR-KVK comprised of Shri A. Kirankumar Singh, Chief Technical Officer, Shri Vikas, SMS (Horticulture), Dr. B. Srishailam, SMS (Agril. Extn.), Chow Kulenda Khunchow, 3 teachers and 66 students of Class-X and Class-XI participated the programme. During the programme, Shri Singh highlighted about the Parthenium, its menace and methods of eradication. He explained in detail the origin of this weed, how it has been spread all over India and creating a havoc in the minds of the people for their health and environment. Shri Singh expressed that the menace of the weed is near to nothing in Kanubari subdivision compared to Pongchau. He further explained the participants that the timely cut grasses can be used in composting or vermicomposting. Dr. B. Srishailam also expressed his views in regards to menaces created by this weed in the agricultural fields as well as human health as he experienced in Telangana. Shri Vikas also expressed his experiences in tackling the menace of the weed in Haryana where the spread of the weed is in vast areas of crop fields as well as the roadsides and railway tracks. Lastly, Shri Singh has expressed his gratitude to all the students and teachers of the school for actively participating the awareness programme.
